Surveys and foods

Scenarios

The GIFT tool uses surveys of different countries from the world. A survey exists for a country and for a specific period in time, and all available surveys so far a collected in a list. As soon as a new survey is implemented in the database its country and time period will be added to this list. The name of the survey and its number of participants are shown by hovering over the country's name. By clicking on the period, a new webpage will be shown; this page contains the metadata of the survey provided. This may include information about contact persons, details about the food consumption survey itself, additional information about the data like the objective of the study, and of the population groups surveyed.

Surveys

Foods

The foods are selected by a search of its name; the name can be referring to a part of a full name in English, or a part of the local name in the country's language (if available). So, searching for "manioc" in the survey for Benin will return three foods with cassava as shown in the figure below. Hovering the X in the third column shows EFSA's Foodex code. One can also search by EFSA's Foodex code.

Each food is presented by a checkbox; it is allowed to select more than one food. Consumption quantities of the selected foods will then be added. Note that the tool does not provide the possibility to calculate the intake for the different foods with different concentrations. So, one should only select more foods if the same concentration for the chemical substance is assumed.
